After years of working in Behavioural Health, Elizabeth started her own practice in 2007 in the USA. She has extensive experience working with individuals, families, couples; and implementing groups, relationship enhancement, and trauma recovery.
Elizabeth's training was completed in America and the requirements/regulations are very different.
Elizabeth has a Bachelor of Science (BS) from Western Michigan University, in Psychology where she attended a university that was Behaviourally focused. Yes, she used Skinner's technique of testing rats with behavioural conditions. Elizabeth moved to Florida for her master’s degree where she completed three years in graduate school to obtain a Masters of Arts (MA) in Mental Health Counseling. The main theoretical approach was Person Centred Therapy. During this time, she wanted to be educated and prepared to the highest level to work with a diverse population. Thankfully, she was privileged to accomplish this by obtaining certificates in Play Therapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Sexual Abuse and Trauma Recovery. She is basic trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) which is effective in helping with traumatic events, anxiety, depression, or difficult emotions.
LMHC: Florida requires a post graduate placement for 2.5 years with a required 1000 clinical hours, 500 supervisory hours and passing a state mandated exam before being called a Psychotherapist or Licensed Mental Health Counselor. This requires 30 hours Continuing Education Units that are state approved every two years to remain active. Elizabeth has maintained licensure from 2007 that will expire in 2025, as she pursues her career in the UK. Having a Florida License gives Psychotherapist the ability to diagnose and treat people using the DSM-V TR in Florida only.
Elizabeth is a registered member with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapists. (MBACP)
Level 3 Award in Education and Training- UK training to be a lecturer for Higher Education and University Students. Currently she is teaching a Level 3 in Counselling class at MAES and a Variable Hours Tutor for master’s students in Counselling and Positive Psychology at The University of Bolton.
Elizabeth is passionate about inclusive education (that is not readily available in the USA) where she opened a Learner Driven School called Acton Academy Winter Park in 2019 for primary and secondary learners with Learning Differences or Neurodiversity. Sadly, the pandemic shifted this dream.
